One of the most frequently asked questions since becoming a vegan is “How do you get your protein?” Non-vegans are more consumed with this question than vegans. They cannot fathom how you don’t eat meat and stay healthy. Most people don’t know that there is protein in almost all plant-based foods. Vegetables, lentils, nut-butters, quinoa, tofu, beans, non-dairy milks, nuts and many more foods contain more protein than you think.
Here are 6 easy sources to enjoy:
Quinoa– This is a complete protein and is light and fluffy and so delicious to eat! Have it for breakfast with almond milk and cinnamon or for dinner on a salad or with veggies. One cup has about 8 grams of protein.
Nut butters- Do you like peanut butter? Almond butter? Yum! Throw them in a smoothie or spread them on a sandwich. They are so delicious and nutritious. Two tablespoons of almond butter have 5 grams of protein, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter has 8 grams.
Greens- You would be amazed at how much protein is in dark leafy greens. Two cups of kale has 5 grams, one cup of cooked spinach has about 7 grams of protein. So eat your dark leafy greens!
Lentils- Lentils are so versatile. You can sprout them and toss them on a salad for a super food or make lentil and brown rice soup. One cup of cooked lentils contains 18 grams! Whoohoo!
Hemp-Hemp protein powder is a great way to mix up your smoothies in the morning. Four tablespoons has 11grams of protein.
Soybeans- Do you like edamame? It’s a quick and easy snack and ½ cup contains 13 grams of protein! Not to mention all the fiber too!
