Meet Trevor Hall. A talented, soulful musician with a raspy voice that you cannot get enough of. He began writing and performing when he was 11 years old and has not stopped since. His music echoes that of Ben Harper, Jack Johnson and Bob Marley. Once you start listening you’ll get hooked. Trevor’s music is deeply spiritual. His latest album Everything, Everytime, Everywhere is spectacular!
Nourishment: When did you first discover music; your first memory?
Trevor: Not sure exactly when I first discovered music … but my earliest memory was when I was about 11 and found a harmonica in the drawer of our house. It was my best friend. I played it every where I went and eventually accompanied by Dad at a local place in town where he used to play the congas.
Nourishment: One can’t help but notice the spiritual undertone to your songs, what fuels the inspiration to write each song?
Trevor: The inspiration can come from anywhere. But most of the time I just try to get out of the way and let it come through … even if I don’t understand it. This is when things are flowing the best. I’m really inspired by the ancient mystic poets like Kabir, Hafiz, and Rumi. I draw a lot from them.
Nourishment: You’ve been eating a plant-based diet for some time. How do you stay healthy on the road?
Trevor: Staying healthy on the road is like Mission Impossible. However, you try your best. It’s lots of salads and nuts because a lot of places don’t serve vegetarian food. We’re spoiled here in California.
Nourishment: If it’s not too personal, may I ask why you chose a plant-based diet?
Trevor: It just happened naturally. Eating meat never really felt right. Then once I became religious … I knew it was the right thing to do.
Nourishment: Is there a particular exercise or means of staying strong and healthy while touring?
Trevor: One word … SLEEEEEEEEEEP!
Nourishment: What are some of your favorite foods?
Trevor: I love Nepali Dal Bhat which is basically rice and lentils. Big fan of gingered greens as well. Mostly, I like my food to be simple and clean … nothing too crazy.
Nourishment: Where is your favorite place in the whole world, and why?
Trevor: India … without a doubt. It is hard to describe it in words. It is the Mother Land … My spiritual home forever.
Nourishment: If you could pick one song that inspires you, the first song that comes to your mind, what would it be?
Trevor: The first thing that comes to mind right now is “Above the Clouds” by Gangstarr. Guru is one of my favorite rappers and that song is a constant inspiration for me. His words are so powerful and the song always grounds me but at the same time makes me think outside the box.
Nourishment: I know there are a million things we wish we could change to make the world a better place, but if you could share one message, what would it be?
Trevor: Sri Neem Karoli Baba said, “Feed People. Serve People. Remember God.”
Nourishment: What does a day in the life of Trevor Hall look like?
Trevor: It is pretty boring! 🙂 When I’m not on the road I just like to take rest, maybe go for a surf, write a little music, and practice my sadhana (spiritual practice). Sometimes I fit in a little trash tv as well:)
Nourishment: Anything you want to share about upcoming tours or albums.
Trevor: At this moment, I am taking a long break … first one I’ve ever had in about 8 years. I’m looking to jump back in the studio in the fall.
